Alex Silcott | Game Engineer
⠀⠀
Welcome to this little corner of the internet. I'm Alex. I make video games.
I have worked on titles such as Five Night's at Freddy's: Security Breach, Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue among several others. I have done work in Unreal Engine, Unity, and Godot. I have shipped titles on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as VR platforms like Oculus Quest and HTC Vive. I have also worked on titles played on arcade cabinets using custom hardware.
My role in working on these projects involve wearing many hats covering all aspects of game engineering. I create and expand upon gameplay systems and mechanics, carry out optimization efforts to improve the performance of games on various hardware, implement AI behaviors, handle difficult bug fixes to pass release candidate requirements, implement core systems and tools shared across several projects, find and implement solutions for novel project requirements, and general putting-out of metaphorical fires (no literal fires...yet).
I work closely with cross-disciplinary teams creating solutions that can be iterated on by game designers and artists without requiring engineering to be in the loop. Sitting in a meeting with a team of creative people discussing how we can create a unique, fun experience for players is the best part of this work. Envisioning all of the systems that need to come together and work cohesively to make the dream a reality is the task game engineers get to fulfill. I create tools to enable less technical folks to generate content and tweak all necessary knobs to make enhancing the player's experience simple. I create the language that brings the design document to tangible reality.
In addition to the work I've done shipping titles with a full studio, I also spend a lot of time tinkering around with my own projects. If I find myself with a bit of spare time, I spend it working on a custom game engine project, making some kind of prototype system, or working on my own games. I am currently experimenting with an Immersive Sim in Godot.
